WLSC is pleased to announce our annual SRC & BM course for 2026 will run between January 5th - 11th. 

Surf Rescue Certificate

The Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) provides participants with basic patrolling and surf awareness knowledge, enabling participation in basic lifesaving patrol activities. The award trains candidates in the skills of signals, radio operations, resuscitation, surf awareness, surf skill and rescue skills. Candidates will also complete a 100m run - 100m swim - 100m run in 5 minutes or less on the day of assessment. The SRC course is attended for a total of 21.5 hours including assessment.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum 13 years old (on the day of the final assessment)
  • Able to swim 200m in 5 minutes

Bronze Medallion

The Bronze Medallion (BM) provides participants with basic patrolling and surf awareness knowledge, enabling participation in lifesaving patrolling operations. The award trains candidates in the skills of signals, radio operations, resuscitation, surf awareness, surf skill, rescue skills, emergency care, spinal management and an on-the-job patrol training. Candidates will also complete a 200m run - 200m swim - 200m run in 8 minutes or less on the day of assessment. The BM course is attended for a total of 40 hours including assessment.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum 15 years old (on the day of the final assessment)
  • Able to swim 400m in 9 mins

If you’re patrolling this season, you must complete your requalification. Please lock these dates into your diary:
Sun 30 Nov – 10:30am to 3:00pm
Sun 14 Dec – 10:30am to 3:00pm
Sun 28 Dec – 12:00pm to 5:00pm

Skills available: Bronze Medallion, Surf Rescue Certificate, IRB Crew & Driver.
